Ann was the youngest of six children born to James Hacking and Jane Pearson. She was born 21 July 1838 in Cuerden, Lancashire, England and was baptized 5 August 1838 at Saint Savior's Church in Bamber Bridge, Preston, England. She died 6 months later in January 1839 in Cuerden and was buried 26 January 1839 at Saint Savior's Churchyard, Bamber Bridge, Lancashire, England. Her father died later that year in September, leaving a widow and 4 surviving minor children: James, Harriet, Jane and John Sampson Hacking, who all came to America in 1849.
