US Congressman. Elected as a Democrat to represent Pennsylvania's 6th District in the Twenty-ninth Congress, he served from 1845 to 1847. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1846. Public office occupied little time in Erdman's life, which was spent primarily as a farmer. From 1834 to 1836 he was a member of the State House of Representatives, and he was an associate judge of the Lehigh County Court from 1866 until his death. He was the grandfather of US Congressman Constantine Jacob Erdman.
