Madalena Elizabeth "Lena" Schertz (1863-1944) was the fourth of ten children of Peter G. Schertz (1826-1891), and his wife, Mary A. Augspurger Schertz (1834-1911), married May 12, 1856 in Trenton, Butler Co., Ohio. She married Albert A. Garber (1867-1932) on September 8, 1891 in McLean Co., Illinois. The following four children were born to this couple:

Alvin Earl Garber (1892-1954)
Vivian Marie Garber (1894-1989)
Louis Donald Garber (1896-1971)
Allie Marguerite Garber (1898-1936)

Albert, and both his sons, Earl and Louis were farm laborers.
