News has been received in the city of the death of Mrs. Mary Lawshe, at Anderson, California. Mrs. Lawshe was one of the pioneers of Atlanta, moving here when the town was known as Marthasville. Her home was in the locality now bounded by Broad, Alabama, and Forsyth streets and the Central railroad, where she resided many years.
Mrs. Lawshe was the daughter of Major Jeremiah Pearson, of Monticello, this state. Her first husband was Mel L. Wright, and her second, William C. Lawshe, who was an Atlanta pioneer. He died about twenty years ago. Mrs. Lawshe was 5 days over 84 years of age. She will be remembered by all the old citizens of Atlanta.
Additional note: Correct spelling of her first husband was Uel, not Mel as stated in the obituary. Mary married her third husband, Dr. Henry B. Davison, on 2 April 1899 at her home in Anderson, Shasta County (The Morning Searchlight, Tues., April 4, 1899, article "CUPIDS PRANKS: A Dart that Pierced the Hearts of Aged People").
Source for marriage date to her second husband, William C. Lawshe: "Georgia, Marriage Records from Select Counties, 1828-1978," database, Ancestry.com (http://interactive.ancestry.com), entry for W. C. Lawshe and Mrs. Mary Wright; citing Spalding County Record of Marriages (White), Book A, 1852-1873 (Handwritten), p. 292.
