Harry Winfred Hendley, 87, passed away at home in Corpus Christi, Texas, on April 14, 2011. He was born in Paris, Henry County, Tennessee, on February 23, 1924, to Harry Gaines and Rubye Lee (Balthaser) Hendley.

He attended Grove High School in Paris, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps July 10, 1941. Harry saw active service during World War II, observing his 21st birthday while fighting in the battle of Iwo Jima. He was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds sustained on Iwo Jima and also received a Letter of Commendation for excellent service as mortar squad leader during operations against the enemy there. On October 4, 1945, Harry was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, but re-enlisted August 12, 1946. He, again, fought with the Marines in the Korean War before receiving his final discharge July 17, 1951.

In November, 1946, he met Dorothy Louise Bulis, who was in the Navy, while they were stationed in New Orleans, Louisiana. They were married there on June 7, 1947.

Growing up in Paris, he loved to hunt, fish, and play tennis. He had a wonderful sense of humor, was an avid swimmer, having obtained a lifeguard certification, and later in life acquired a love of golf.

Harry was an electrical engineer and enjoyed a long career with Reynolds Metals Company. Ultimately, he was a Plant Manager for Reynolds International, for whom he built and oversaw the startup of facilities in Canada and in Venezuela.

Harry and Dorothy were married 24 years before divorcing in September, 1971. They had four children together, all of whom survive him, to-wit: Mary Lockwood, Arkansas; Suzi (Peter) Nelson, Florida; Harriett (Richard) Bozora, Georgia; and Harry Hendley, Florida. Also surviving are two grandsons, Andrew Joseph Townsend and Philip Jake Nelson; and, one step-brother, Jake (Maxine) Paschall, Jr., Michigan. Two sons-in-law, Laurence Scott Lockwood, Sr., and Joseph George Townsend; and, one grandson, Laurence Scott Lockwood, Jr., predeceased Harry.

In October, 1971, Harry married Katie Sue (Lee) Womack. They were married 38 years until her death in March, 2011. No children issued from Harry's second marriage, but his step family mourns his loss, to-wit: one stepson, Darrell W. (Veronica) Womack; brother-in-law Dale (Patti) Gregory; 9 stepgrandchildren; and, 21 stepgreat-grandchildren. One stepdaughter, Marilyn Sue Callison, predeceased Harry.

Harry was laid to rest at 2:00 p.m. on 16 April, 2011 in Seaside Memorial Park.
