Asahel Newton Jr. married Sarah Elliot, April 3, 1817, dau of Samuel and Anise Marie (dun) Elliot. He was a successful farmer and lived on his father's hilside farm on Daniels Peak in Leyden, Mass.

Asahel Newton Jr. died Dec. 14, 1837, just over a year after his youngest daughter's birth (Ellen). She died August 12, 1838. Members of Sarah Elliot's family moved into the home to take care of the remaining children, Charles, Joseph, Almira and Asahel III. Asahel Jr and Sarah (Elliot) Newton had eleven children in all.

Name "Asahel" meaning "made by God" is a biblical name and is mentioned in 2 Chronicles 17:8;, 2 Chronicles 31:13; 2 Samuel 2:18-24,32;3:27;23:24; 1 Chronicles 2:16;11:26; and Ezra 10:15
