Doris M. Goughnour Schmidt, 92, of Beatrice died Thursday morning, April 14, 2011, at the Beatrice Good Samaritan Center.

She was born on March 8, 1919, at rural Beatrice, grew up in the Beatrice area, and graduated from Beatrice High School in 1937. She was married to Robert Goughnour on May 4, 1947, at the First Christian Church of Beatrice. They lived in Pennsylvania until 1957, then in California, where they lived until moving to Beatrice in 1979. She did office work at various places, retiring in 1976.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Beatrice where she was baptized and had also been a member of Circle 3 of the church. She was a member of Vesper Chapter 9 of Eastern Star and the Federated Women's Club, both of Beatrice. She was married to Earl Schmidt on Aug. 6, 1994, and they lived in Beatrice. She enjoyed dancing.

Survivors include two stepdaughters, RoJayne Harrington and husband Larry of Lincoln and Gloria Allison and husband Bob of Weeki Wachee, Fla.; one stepson, Dallas Schmidt and wife Sharon of Naples, Fla.; eight step grandchildren; 14 step great-grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Camp of Beatrice; niece, the Rev. Dorothy Sparks of Minneapolis, Minn.; nephew, Albert Sparks and wife Joyce of Lincoln. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Edith Gordon Sparks; her first husband, Robert; her second husband, Earl; one brother, Roy Sparks.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 18, at the First Christian Church (DOC) of Beatrice with the Rev. David A. Bigley officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. A family prayer service will be held at 1:45 p.m. Monday in the parlor of the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the First Christian Church. An Eastern Star service will be provided by Vesper Chapter 9 of Beatrice. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice from noon Saturday until 10 a.m. Monday morning, and at the church one hour preceding the services on Monday.
