BAXTER - Funeral services for William Carl Scarlett, 83, of Baxter will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow, Monday, March 1, in the Baxter chapel of Whitson Funeral Home with burial to follow at Russell Cemetery in the Gentry community near Baxter.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 6 p.m. tonight.

Mr. Scarlett was pronounced dead on arrival at Cumberland River South Hospital on Friday, Feb. 26, 1999.

A native of Cookeville, he was born on Aug. 23, 1915, to James Mode and S. Jane Rippetoe Scarlett.

A member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Mr. Scarlett was a self-employed farmer and carpenter.

His family includes a son, Albert Russell of Buffalo Valley; five daughters, Mary Jordan and Johnie Bryant, both of Baxter, Pauline Norrod and Ollie Flatt, both of Cookeville, and Ruby May of Nineveh, Ind.; a sister, Georgia Bush of Bloomington Springs; a brother, Charles Scarlett of Baxter; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Scarlett was preceded in death by his wife, Floy Russell Scarlett; three sisters, Annie Hughes, Myrtle Watts and Cora Dickens; and a brother, Harley Scarlett.

Bro. J. Glea Shelley will officiate at the services.
