Paul Hanson was born Nov. 24th, 1947 and entered Glory Saturday morning, April 9th, 2011 while running with his students at a community race.

Paul came to Brownsville in 1971 to serve the Lord in Mexico. He taught at 'The Migrant School' for BISD. His heart was always in Mexico. He founded Valley Christian High School, where he gave tirelessly as principle and teacher for 38 years.

He is survived by his wife, Gail Hanson; three sons and their wives: Joel and Gloria of Seattle, Marco and Margaret of Elgin and David and Anna of Austin; as well as six grandchildren: Adam, Laurel, Olivia, Victoria, Ayla and Anders.

He also has one brother, Phil, in Kirkland, Washington.

Paul graduated from Eastmont High School in Wenatchee, Washington, received his BA in Education at Western Washington University and his Master's Degree in Education Administration at UTB. He married Gail Louise Mosness in 1969 and he faithfully loved and ministered to her first for 42 years. Their three sons and later their families were the pride of his life. He was an Elder and Royal Ranger leader at Good Shepherd for over twenty years, a member of Vineyard Church and a director of Healing Rooms of Brownsville. He was a man of prayer and worship, deeply committed to Christ, his family, students and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and teacher, faithful in praying for the sick and playing with his family and students. He was a scholar and mystic. He taught a range of Bible, science and math classes while being the spiritual father to thousands of students. He loved to take his students to Mexico City, Europe and throughout Texas. For over ten years he reached out monthly with food and clothes to families that lived in the Matamoros dump and he prayed earnestly for the end of violence and revival in Mexico. He deeply believed that high school should be a transformative stage in a teen's life - rich with spiritual experiences and crazy fun.

He will be deeply missed. If you didn't know Paul, words cannot describe the man of God he was. If you did know him, his life was his legacy... he was a man of unshakeable faith, goodness and integrity.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 12th at 5 p.m. at Good Shepherd Community Church at 300 West Morrison Road.

In lieu of flowers, gifts are being received at P.O. Box 4220, Brownsville, TX 78523 for a scholarship fund for Valley Christian High School students and graduates.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Joe I. Treviño, Garza Memorial Funeral Home, 1025 E. Jackson St., Brownsville, TX 78520, (956)542-5511.
