James Huston Abernethy, 54, died at 1:20 PM Monday at the St. Joseph's Hospital at Ottumwa. He was the son of James and Sarah Abernathy and was born in Wapello County March 11, 1892. He spent his entire life in the county as a farmer. Surviving are his wife Gertrude; three daughters, Mrs. C. Henry Christy of Ottumwa, Mrs. Fred Clark of Bettendorf and Mrs. Clark Chapman of Cedar Rapids; two sons change Marion of Kirkville and Paul Joseph at home; six sisters, Mrs. Austin Failyer and Mrs. Anna Abernathy of Kirkville. Mrs. Carl Fairchild of Selma, Mrs. Will Holland of DeSmet, South Dakota, Mrs. Jim Guthrie of St. Louis and Mrs. H. E. Warren of Ottumwa; two brothers, Ted Abernethy of Ottumwa and A. H. Abernethy of Elton, and three grandchildren. His wife and all his children were at his bedside. Funeral services will be at 9 AM Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Ottumwa, in charge of the Rev. D. C. Donahoe. The body will be taken from the community funeral parlor in Ottumwa to the Abernethy home here at 10 AM Wednesday, then returned to Ottumwa at 6 PM rosary services will be at 8:30 PM Wednesday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
