Son of Robert Mentor and Mary Della (Glasscock) Gass.

Howard A. Gass, 100, passed away in Boise, Idaho on January 24, 2008. Howard was born on January 4, 1908 in Lawrence County, Missouri to Della and Robert Mentor Gass. He was the oldest of five children. He had two brothers, William and Wayne and two sisters, Leta and Vera. He grew up and attended school in Lawrence County, graduating from Miller High School in 1926. He graduated from Springfield Teachers College and received his teaching certificate in 1929.

Howard married Wilma Reese on December 7, 1927 in Miller, Mo. They had one child, Paul Eldon. Howard taught in a one-room school-house at Round Grove School, northwest of Miller for several years. Then Howard and his family moved to Pullman in 1937 where he eventually owned and operated an auto repair shop, Gass's Auto Service for many years.

Howard had a love of fly-fishing throughout his life. Any day he could fish was a great day for him. Howard was also an avid WSU sports fan. He was a life-time member of the Elks Lodge #249. Howard loved spending time with his family and was devoted to them. He was greatly pleased to celebrate his 100th birthday with his family.

Howard is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Paul and Mary Anne Gass of Boise; two grandsons, Craig Gass and his wife Isabelle, of Moraga, Calif., and Gary Gass of Pullman, a granddaughter Brenda Meier and her husband Joe of Boise; and his great-grandchildren Stephanie and Paula Gass, Katie, Carly and Ryan Meier.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, of 76 years and his two brothers and two sisters.

The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 2nd, at Kimball Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Pullman Cemetery, with a reception afterwards at the Quality Inn Paradise Creek. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Pullman Regional Hospital.
