Sylvia Dontje of Manton, Michigan, entered eternal life on March 16, 2011, in Cape Coral, Florida, after a long struggle with breast cancer. She was 85 years old.
Sylvia was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to Max and Frances Burnick and moved to Boon, Michigan, in 1939. She graduated from Mesick High School. Sylvia married Robert Dontje of Manton on January 10, 1946. They lived in Manton until 1964, then moved to Lapeer, where Sylvia worked as a dietitian for the State of Michigan. They returned to Manton after retiring in 1981 and spent their winters in Holiday and Cape Coral, Florida.
Sylvia is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert Dontje, of Manton; four children, Marcia of Corte Madera, Calif., Robert Jr. of Cape Coral, Fla.; Dale of Burton, Mich. and Mark of DeWitt, Mich., eight grandchildren, Dana Mihaly, Dale Gundy, Jason, Justin, Evan, Anna, Ryan, and Taylor Dontje; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Ann Jackson of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Frances Goodrich of Cadillac.
Funeral Service: Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Hall Funeral Chapel in Manton, with Rev. Richard A. Anderson officiating.
