Died --- John H. Moses
John H. Moses was born in Somerset Co., Penn., Nov.15, 1840. During his boyhood he emigrated with the family to Steveson Co., Ill., where most of his early life was spent. He was an old soldier, having served all through the war in Co. B. of the 46 regiment of Illinois volunteers of Freeport, Ill. He was married while home on a furlough in 1864 to Mary Elizabeth Allison. He received an honorable discharge from the army Jan. 20, 1866. He came to Kansas with his family in 1879 and since that time has made this state his home. He has been a member of the Methodist church since his boyhood. The end came to him so peacefully at last like a tired child falling asleep. He leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss. One son and three daughters, all grown to man- and womanhood and three grandchildren, all were present at his death. His old army chaplain, Rev. Lewis of Wamego conducted the services in a very touching manner. There was a large gethering of friends and neighbors present to assist in the last sad rites and to show the universal respect in which he was held. He was a most kind and affectionate father and time the only healer will reconcile the family to his loss. He will be much missed in the vicinity. He has been a member of the school board for 15 years and was always interested and worked for the good of the school. The remains were interred in the Kaw cemetery on March 31.Census Place: Kaw, Wabaunsee, Kansas
