Harvel "Son" Baldridge was born December 7, 1921 in Stilwell, Oklahoma to William and Retta (West) Baldridge and departed this life on April 8, 2011 at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 1 day. Harvel joined the Army in Tulsa, OK on November 6, 1942. His Military Occupational Specialty was a Military Policeman and his qualification was a Rifle Marksman. He received an Honorable Discharge as a Corporal of the 724th Military Police Battalion on December 6, 1945 at Fort Leavenworth, KS. After a long courtship of 7 weeks he knew he had met the love of his life, Fleta "Toad" Coombs. They were married on July 24, 1946 in Tahlequah, OK. They made their home in Sand Springs, OK until 1979, when they returned to the Tahlequah area, after retiring from Sheffield Steel Mill. Son was an active member of the American Legion Post #135 in Tahlequah serving as Post Commander from 1980 - 1981. He was a member of the VFW #3707 and Elks Lodge #2601. He was also a member of Proctor Baptist Church. Son was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 64 years Fleta "Toad" Baldridge; his parents; his sisters Alma Conrad, Bess Roberts, and twin sisters Hazel Thompson and Azel Baldridge; his twin brother Orvel (Bud) Baldridge and his brothers Floyd Baldridge, Clebourne Baldridge, Lloyd Baldridge and Kenneth Baldridge. Harvel departed this life at the home of his Nephew Larry Lockwood and wife Carolyn of Proctor and he is survived by numerous other nieces and nephews. Many friends and other relatives also survive him. Funeral services will be held 10 am Wednesday April 13, 2011 at the Hart Funeral Chapel with Rev. Charles Duvall officiating. Interment will follow at the New Home Cemetery.
