He served with the Merchant Marine during World War II, and retired in 1980 as a maintenance supervisor for Magnavox, Fort Wayne, after 45 1/2 years. He was a member of the Allen County 4-H Fairgrounds, and the American Motorcycle Association. He enjoyed woodworking, motorcycles, and antique tractor shows.
Surviving are his wife, Pat (Zimmerman) Liggett; seven children, Everett E. "Busty" (Linda) Liggett of Auburn, Everett (Jenny) Liggett Jr., Carson (Tamera) Templeton, Darlene (Bob) Thomas, Debra (Charles "Wayne") Thomas, and Pamela (Paul) Lich, all of Churubusco, and Rick (Dian) Templeton of Spencerville; brothers, George (Pat) Liggett of Fort Wayne and Charles (Sara) Liggett of Eden, Ohio; sisters, Phyllis (Wallace) Castle of Coldwater, Mich., Alice (William) Mabry of Olympia, Wash., Pat Hoopengardner of Fort Wayne and Barbara Koskie of Garrett, 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tamara Liggett; twin brother, Emmett Liggett; brother, Kenneth L. Liggett; and sisters, Eleanor Bellis and Roberta "Bert" Ebert.
Service is 11 a.m. Saturday at Churubusco United Methodist Church, with calling one hour before services. Calling also from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home. Burial is 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Scipio Cemetery, east of Harlan.
