John immigrated to America in 1804 and bought 320 acres of land in Wayne County, Indiana according to the Wayne Co. archives. This land was located a few miles south of Cambridge City. Here John built a log house in which most of his ten children were born, including William in 1827. He developed the land into a fine farm. His brother Thomas came over in 1818 and joined him on the farm. He died in 1843 as a result of a fall from his horse.
