Marie was born July 17, 1918 in Anson County, a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Gladys Timmons Northcutt. She graduated from McFarlan High School and later earned her degree from Wingate College.
She worked for many years as bookkeeper for the James A. Leak Company and Farms, was a well-known antique dealer and income tax preparer. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star and was also active in community affairs, including United Citizens for Better Government and CACTUS.
On Nov. 1, 1942, she married Collie Hearne "Buck" Burns, who preceded her in death. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Raymond and Jerry Northcutt.
Surviving are her son, Collier H. Burns of Wadesboro; her sister and brothers, Catherine N. Duckworth of Albemarle, Med Northcutt Sr. of Morven, Frank Northcutt of Matthews and Edward Northcutt of Tallahassee, Fla.; and her nieces and nephews and their families.
