CRENSHAW, MR. DAVID JR. Age 84, of Birmingham, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2011. He was a veteran of World War II and was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in 1943. He received the Victory Ribbon and the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon and served on the USS Dixie, the USS Whitney, and the USS APL-24. He served with the U.S. Naval Reserve until January 18, 1953. He served as president of the Pratt City Civic League when the Howze-Sanford Recreation Center was built. He was an active member of the American Legion Post #318 and the Unit K-West Association. An entrepreneur and proprietor, he operated David's Delicatessen in the Pratt City community and Electro Print Photocopy Shop in the Five Points West Area. He was retired from U.S. Steel, Ensley, after 39 years as a member of the Plant Union Committee. A dedicated member of Saint James A. M. E. Church since 1947, he served in many capacities including as a member of the Steward Board, Trustee Board, Usher Board, Class Leader, and President of the Lay Organization. His legacy will be that he made a difference! Lovingly cherishing his memory are a loving and devoted wife, Dr. Susie W. Crenshaw; two sons, Major David Edric (Traci) Crenshaw and Daryl Eugene Crenshaw; one daughter, Adrienne Michele (Terry) Rowland; four sisters-in-law, Rosetta Crenshaw, Mattie White Howard, Mary White Hubbard, and Alice Lewis; two step-brothers, Johnnie (Cassie) Lewis and Robert (Mildred) Lewis; one step-sister, Genevive Lewis-Ridgeway; two grandchildren, David Andrew Crenshaw and Christian David Rowland; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The Homegoing Celebration will convene Saturday, April 9, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at Saint James A.M.E. Church, 529 Fifth Way, Pratt City. Reverend Johnnie L. Edison, Sr. , officiating. Viewing will occur at the church beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial Service will be at the Alabama National Cemetery (Montevallo) on Monday, April 11, 2011, at 11:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Saint James A.M.E. Church in care of Mrs. Adrienne C. Rowland at 529 Fifth Way, Pratt City, Birmingham, Alabama 35214 or a memorial gift to the Alzheimer's Association of Central Alabama, P.O. Box 2273, Birmingham, AL 35201. Family and friends will assemble at the church at 12:30 p.m. Professional services entrusted to: Integrity Funeral Home, Hueytown, AL, 205-491-1006.
