CARL BENDIX, 78, DIES; LONG IN MAENNERCHOR
Carl Bendix, 78, long prominent in the business and fraternal life in Utica, died early today at his home, 1209 Neilson, following an extended illness.
Mr. Bendix was the oldest member of the Utica Maennerchor, which he joined in 1883 and of which he served as financial secretary for 48 years.
Mr. Bendix was born in Hanover, Germany Sept 21, 1862. He came to this country and to Utica in 1879 and shortly after his arrival here entered employ of the Holbrook Shoe Company, having worked at shoe making before coming to this country.
Later he was in the shoemaking business himself and then was employed by the city as inspector of construction work and for 10 years until his retirement four years ago had been a court attendant at the County Court House.
He was married to Catherine Rohm, this city, June 21, 1887. She died Sept. 27, 1939
Three years ago the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
He also was a member of long standing of Allemania Lodge 100F and for almost half a century had been financial secretary of Germania Lodge, recently suspended.
He was a member of the Moravian Church.
He leaves a daughter, Mrs. George Schaub, a son Carl H. Bendix; a sister, Mrs. Hannah Bauer; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren, all of Utica.
Funeral services will be held at the home at 2:30 p.m. Friday with burial in Forest Hill Cemetery.
