RINCON - Alvin Powers "Doc" Rahn, 92, died Monday, March 15, 2010 at Memorial Health surrounded by his loving family. The Effingham County native was the oldest member of Oak Grove Church of Christ and retired from CertainTeed Products. He was a U.S. Navy Gunners Mate First Class WWII veteran having served on the SS Richard Bland when it was sunk by a German submarine in 1942. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claudie L. Rahn and Olive Rahn; son Hugo Rahn; sister, Valaree Rahn Bazemore; 4 brothers, Leroy, Addison, Newell and Vernon Rahn; and 2 grandchildren. Doc enjoyed spending time with his extended family and attending family reunions. Survivors include his wife, Mary B. Rahn of Rincon; children, Ronald E. Rahn (Charlotte) of Fernandina Beach, FL, Wanda Rahn Williams (Tommy) of Savannah, Gary W. Rahn (Micki) of Savannah, Robin Rahn of Augusta, Vivian Rahn (Hugo Rahn predeceased) of Richmond Hill; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Rahn of Rincon; and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Effingham Chapel. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Oak Grove Church of Christ. Mr. Rahn will lie in state from 10 a.m. Minister Don Davis will officiate. Pallbearers will be Matthew Rahn, Eric Speegle, Brian Markowitz, Shannon Rahn, Mitch Molpus and Tommy Williams, Jr., all grandsons. Interment will follow in Effingham Memorial Gardens.
