This William Wells was born in Clark Co IN in 1817 and was the father of Perry and Charles Wells who both served in the 36 AR INF from Missouri. The 5th MO INF was formed in the area of Missouri where the 1860 William Wells lived. According to the daughter of William Wells, Sarah Jane Wells Stewart, he did see service in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. - Daniel Harrison
