Fred Hoppe served in F Company, 141st Inf. Regiment 36th inf. Regiment during World War II. the 36st Infantry Division had one of the highest Casualty rates of any American division., suffering over 27,000 causalities. The 36th fought in some of the worst battles in World War II, including Anzio Beach, Cassino, and the Rapido River. The 36th Division captured over 190,000 enemy soldiers in the course of World War II. After being wounded four times Fred Hoppe returned home to Schuyler Nebraska where he spent the rest of his life.
