William married Sarah (Sally) DUNAWAY on 11 Jan 1862 in Pike County MS. They had 13 children: Laura, Dovie, Cora L, Nora, Lola, Lonny M (Lon), John M (Johnny), Lula, Asa Ocie, Tula Katherine, Dona, Edward M & Effie MAY.

He served in the Civil War (CSA, Co E, 33rd MS Infantry) and was captured and held POW. In 1907 he filed for his military pension while living in Temple TX stating he was in good health, but feeble. He was a farmer and peddler.
