Augusta M. Blackmon was the daughter of Augustus Monroe Blackmon and Lula Belle Camp. Augusta died at the young age of three. She was so ill with pneumonia that her father rode his horse through the night to Kosse to fetch a doctor who had a "new" method for treating pneumonia. The doctor returned to Groesbeck with her father and "aspired" her young lungs. However, shortly thereater, Augusta contracted meningitis and died in her mother's arms. Her family always suspected in later years, that the doctor's instruments were not sterile and Augusta probably got the meningitis as the result of the well meaning doctor's visit.
