Religious Figure, Educator. Mother Mary Frances Clarke emigrated to the United States from Ireland. She organized the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. At the invitation of Bishop Loras, the community moved to Dubuque, Iowa. She founded a school for girls in Dubuque, Iowa. Today that school is known as Clarke College.
