Maude Whittaker McCrory Obituary
Mrs. Maude Elizabeth Whittaker McCrory, 83, of Murdock, died November 30, 1964 at the Madonna Home in Lincoln, Nebraska. Funeral services were held at Murdock Ebenezer Evangelical United Methodist Church December 21, 1964. The Reverend O. W. Matzke officiated. Jim Miller was soloist and sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Whispering Hope" with Mrs. Eldon Panska at the organ. Pallbearers were Gerald Earl, Dwight Thimgan, Richard Jones, Neal Dorr, Clarence Pricter, and Robert Nelson. Burial was in Wabash Cemetery, Clement Door Funeral Home of Elmwood made the arrangements.
Maude Elizabeth Whittaker McCrory was the daughter of Edward Saunders Whittaker and Nancy Wilson Whittaker. She was born at Lorton, Nebraska September 22, 1881. In 1900 she graduated from Syracuse High School. She attended the University of Nebraska for one year. She has lived in the Murdock community the last 63 years. She married I. C. McCrory at her Syracuse home February 6, 1902. They farmed south of Murdock until 1936 and then moved into Murdock.
Eight children were born to them. One daughter, Lela Iva McCrory, died in a car accident in 1949. In her youth Maude had been a member of the Syracuse Baptist Church, later joining the Baptist Church in Wabash, Nebraska. When the church was discontinued, she transferred her membership to Callahan E.U.B. Church and later to Murdock E.U.B Church which she was a member until her death in 1964. For many years she was a member of Ladies Aid Society and the Ideal Chapter #184 O.E.S. of Elmwood.
Survivors are Iva C. McCrory who now lives in the Madonna Home in Lincoln. Daughters are: Edna Thimgan, Lincoln; Mrs Clinton (Bernice) Jones and Mrs. Lawrence Earl of Ashland; and Mrs Norman (Dorothy) Yardley of Stapleton, Nebraska. Sons: Maurice L McCrory of Ashton, Nebraska and Edward N. McCrory of Murdock. 18 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren.
Mrs. McCrory had been confined to her home bedfast with arthritis. She and her husband have spent the last eight months at the Lincoln Madonna Home.
