Confirmed 1812 Vet: Charles Combs served in the War of 1812 in George L. DAVIDSON'S NC Militia.
Monroe County Records: Charles Combs, b 2 Jul 1793, Virginia; d 28 Feb 1866, Monroe Co, IN; m (1) 28 Dec 1819, Surry Co, NC, Abigail REAVIS; m (2) Greene Co, IN, 1858, Anna, widow of a McLAUGHLIN.
Family reports: The Charles Combs that you have listed as 1846-1868 (possibly with birth date of 1796) is my GGG Grandfather.
We have always believed his birth date to be 2 July 1793 and his death date to be 28 Feb 1866.
I have corrected the data based on the family reports. Also it is very easy to misread 1866 as 1868. The tombstone also read (1937-39) he had aged 72 which is in line with Family's records.
Additional Family Info: Charles Sr's sons - He had eight sons all together. Some of the others are buried in the Combs Cemetery in Greene County, IN. 2010 I was able to find it and take photos of my ancestors there. It's out in the middle of a cow pasture and well hidden. I thought that Charles Sr. was buried there-but I couldn't find a traditional marker-just a 5x5 stone post with the initials C.C., but I was never quite convinced that he was actually buried there because the information that I initially had was that he had died and was buried in Monroe County.
