Joe Weldon Poland, born near Manning in 1920, married Tommie Parrish from Moffitt.They Have three daughters, Kathy; Linda and Tommie Jo "T.J.' and three grandchildren. They settled on the western part of Shawnee Prairie and have substantial holdings in pasture, timber and cattle.
Services for Joe Welton Poland, 76, of Huntington, were held Monday, April 21, 1997 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Poland was born Sept. 24, 1920, in Manning, Texas and passed from this life on April 19, 1997 in Lufkin.
Mr. Poland was a lifelong farmer and rancher at Manning and Shawnee Prairie. He attended Texas A&M University and served in the armed services during World War II. He was a member of the Shawnee Prairie Baptist Church
Survivors: his loving wife of 53 years, Tommie Parish Poland; daughter, Kathyleen Poland Mancil; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Poland Syler and Kyle Syler and T. J. Poland Colwell an Brad Colwelll; grandchildren, Lindsay Rae Syler, Bradley Clay Colwell, Kimberlee Jo Colwell and Truett Cole Colwell; brother, Robert L. Poland Sr.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred and C. D. Lowery, Jr., Marjorie and William McCullough; sister, Merlene Cowart; sister-in-law, Betty Parish Woolf; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ed and Billie Parish; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Mr. Poland was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Wesley and Etta Dora Poland; sisters, Commander Gladys Dell Poland, U.S.S.N., Maxine Rene Ilgenfritz, and Erlene Poland; son-in-law, Edward Cecil Mancil; sister-in-law, Adell Poland; and brothers-in-law, William Cowart and Alton Woolf.
