Harrison Fitch, 67, 224 E. Main, Mitchell, owner of Fitch Chevrolet Sales and Service and prominent Mitchell businessman and civic leader, died Sunday, January 6, 1974 at 9:30 p.m. at Kentucky Baptist Hospital in Louisville, KY.

Mr. Fitch, A Chevrolet dealer for 33 years in Mitchell, started his business on January 1, 1941 after purchasing the agency from Paul Chase, for whom he had worked as a salesman for several years.

He was very active in the Lawrence County Republican party. He was currently vice-chairman of the Lawrence County Advisory Board to the Salvation Army, a post held for over 20 years. He was on the board of directors of the First National Bank of Mitchell and was a member, trustee and deacon of First Christian Church of Mitchell.

He was also a member of the board of directors of the Lawrence County Mental Health Association for more than 20 years. He was very active in the Mitchell Chamber of Commerce, serving on the board of directors, and was very active in the annual Persimmon Festival. He was a member of the IOOF Lodge and the Fraternal Order of Police.

He was born in Huron on October 14, 1906, to William Howard and Mary Blankenship Fitch. Both parents are deceased. On Dec. 24, 1932, he married Ruth Porter and she survives.

Also surviving are two brothers, Harlan Fitch, Mitchell and Thurston Fitch, of Davis, CA.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church with Rev. Barney Stephens and Rev. Robert Kirkman officiating. Interment will be in Mitchell Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday to lie in state. Friends may call after 7 p.m. today at Chastain Funeral Home in Mitchell.

Honorary casket bearers will be Dilley Erwin, Hurley Fletcher, Leslie Abell, Paul Chase, Roy Braman, C. M. Braman, Frank Braman, Jr., Paul Bass, Walter MacDonald, Dr. George Sorrells, Porter Burton, Steve Stefanovich, Norman McCart, Mayor Jerry Hancock and B. D. Hartzell. Casket bearers will be Stanley Henderson, Frank Chase, Howard Wood, John Dorsett, Robert J. Burton and Robert Lewis.
