Maurice O'Dean "Smoky" Hale, 75, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, Kansas.
Maurice was born in Chanute, Kansas on April 22, 1935, the son of Stafford Stevenson and Florence Lillian (Walker) Hale.
He graduated from Chanute High School in the Class of 1953.
Maurice was united in marriage to Patricia L. Mitchell on May 10, 1956 in Iola, Kansas. She preceded him in death on May 20, 2008.
He worked as a Professional Dry Cleaner from age 14 until age 26. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Ash Grove Cement Company for over thirty years.
He is survived by three sons, Maurice "Mo" Hale Jr. of Olathe, KS, Douglas Hale of Chanute, KS, and Patrick Hale of Parsons, KS; three grandchildren, Andrea Hale, Allie Hale, and Mitch Hale; and two brothers, Stafford Hale of Vallejo, CA, and Gordon Hale of Henderson, NV.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Patricia; a son, Mitchell Hale; and a sister, Phyllis Wade.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.
Memorials in his name may be made to Cherry Street Youth Center and may be left with the funeral home.
Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
