BEDELL, REBA D., 78, died peacefully on November 5, 2008 at Berlin Health & Rehabilitation Center where she had recently been admitted. Prior to her admittance to the nursing home she had become a member of "The Squier House family" in Waterbury and received loving care there for several years.
She was born in Stowe on May 28, 1930, to Llyle and Nina (BOYCE) DOUGLASS. She was the only girl out of their 11 children.
She is survived by her brothers, Alston DOUGLASS of Montpelier, Lloyd DOUGLASS of Grand Isle and Dean DOUGLASS of Hyde Park. She was predeceased by her brothers Tom, Llyle Jr., Roger, Wayne, Charles, George and Reginald "Red."
Reba married Frank BEDELL, Jr., who predeceased her on Dec. 10, 1995, and she is survived by their two children, Zoe BEDELL of Stowe and Jonathan BEDELL of Pittsford, as well as two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Well known in the Stowe area for her talent in the culinary arts, Reba for many years was a chef at The Spruce Pond Inn and Stowehof, and later co-owned and managed the Village Coffee Shop, all in Stowe. She lived with Frank and her children in Moscow for most of her adult life. Over the years she unconditionally opened her home to various family and community members who needed temporary support. She was also an active participant in summer programs that brought youth from the cities to live with Vermont families. Reba enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, as well as the canning and freezing of her produce to cook up later. She was an avid needle pointer and knitter. Those who loved her will remember her devilish smile, coupled with her engagingly cantankerous style.

A memorial service will be held at the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury on Nov. 18 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts would be appreciated to The Squire House, 26 Unon St. Waterbury, VT 05676, to fund the patient activities there.
