Joyce Fay Allard
PARADISE, Pa. - Joyce Fay Allard, 62, went home to be with her Lord on Dec. 11, 2001, after a struggle with cancer.
Joyce Fay was born May 9, 1939, in Wykoff, N.J., the daughter of the late Herman and Jessie (Brain) Zuidema.
Her formative years were spent in Midland Park, N.J., where she attended grammar and elementary school. She then attended and graduated from high school in Pompton Lakes, N.J., with the Class of 1957.
Through high school she was a member of a singing group known as the Sweet Adelines. She carried a lifelong love of music. During high school she had to travel each day by train. This began a lifelong love of trains and especially old steam locomotives.
Upon graduation from high school, Joyce Fay attended the School of Nursing at Farleigh Dickison University.
She then married Frank Holly from Texas and went to Germany for two years as a military wife. Her son, Daryl, was born in Germany. This marriage ended in divorce after returning to the states.
Joyce Fay then chose to move to rural upstate New York to raise her son. She and Daryl moved to Happy Valley, Goodyear Lake in 1971. Shortly after moving to New York she started working for the Oneonta School District in the business office where she was accounts payable clerk and internal auditor.
She had been a member of the Clerical Association and a past president. She worked for the school district for more than 20 years, retiring in 1994. Joyce Fay was a former member of the Oneonta Business Women's Club.
On Oct. 6, 1978, Joyce Fay married Frank E. Allard in Milford, N.Y. They were each other's very best friend forever. They shared a love for horses and in 1979, began breeding, raising, training and selling Belgian and Percheron draft horses. They were members of the Eastern Regional Draft Horse Association.
Joyce Fay and Frank moved to their little dream farm on Sperry Hollow Road, town of Maryland in 1986, living there until 1999, when they built a new home in Paradise, Pa.
Along with her great love of Frank, family, friends and her horses, cat and dog, Joyce Fay had a great love of perennial flowers. She grew well over 100 species and varieties, had vast knowledge of flowers and was often asked for her expertise.
She was also a superb cook and baker. She enjoyed birds and all of nature and God's creation. Joyce Fay enjoyed traveling and camping with Frank and they covered many miles with their camper. She was very fond of the Rocky Maine Coast.
Joyce Fay will be sorely missed by family and friends. Along with her beloved Frank, she is survived by her son and his wife, Daryl and Linda Holly, DeLancey, N.Y.; her sister and companion, Lois Roam and Gary Kaneg, Milford Center, N.Y.; her brother and wife, David and Donna Zuidema, Oneonta, N.Y.; a nephew, Mike Roam and companion, Vanessa Perry, Franklin, N.Y.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
To honor the request of the deceased, there will be no calling hours and no funeral service. There will be direct cremation.
Committal will be private and at the convenience of the family.
