Mr. Edwards, age 91, of Charlotte passed away Sunday March 27, 2011 at NC State Veterans Home in Salisbury. Mr. Edwards was born February 8, 1920 in Union County, NC son of the late Harrison and Hyatte Bigham Edwards. He graduated from Jackson High School in Waxhaw, NC, served in the U.S. Army Airborne 503rd during WWII, received the Silver Star, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with 2 bronze stars, American Defense Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 bronze star serving in New Guiena and Southern Philippines. Mr. Edwards was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church and retired from Delmar Printing Company now Herff Jones after over 35 years of service. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Florence Bostian Edwards, brother, Wilson Edwards and sisters Lucille Edwards Lyles and Grace Edwards Fisher.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at McEwen Funeral Service Charlotte Chapel, 5716 Monroe Rd., Charlotte, NC 28212. A service to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday March 30. 2011,at 1:00 P.M. at Ascension Lutheran Church conducted by Reverend Eric Miller. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
Surviving are Joyce and Roger Tully of Lawrenceville, GA, Phil and Janice Edwards of Mint Hill, NC, Peggy Russell of Charlotte, Marty and Conway Thomas of Peachland, NC and Susan and Doug Bartenfeld of Southport, NC, 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
