Iobra Eileen Shelton, age 92, of Harrison, died Thursday, May 28, 2009 [note: gravestone engraved May 27], at the Newton County Nursing Home in Jasper, Arkansas. She was born March 7, 1917, in Cave Creek, Arkansas, the daughter of J. P. and Cordelia (Casteel) McCutcheon. Mrs. Shelton was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dorwin Dean Shelton; a daughter, Bernell Carlton; and a grandson, Patrick Burnes.
Iobra attended Arkansas Tech University. She was a school teacher. She loved flowers, gardening, was an excellent cook, made big dinners and was known for her hot rolls and fried apple pies.
Iobra Shelton is survived by her son, Dorwin Lynn Shelton, of St. Augustine, Florida; her daughters, Elizabeth Sue Ober of Springdale, Arkansas, Janice Sloan of Jasper, and Glenda Burns of Georgia; her sister, Bernice Thorp, of Harrison; her son-in-law, Ford Carlton, of Claremore, Oklahoma; sixteen grandchildren; twenty seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends throughout the community.
Pastor Arlis Thrasher officiated the funeral service.
Iobra's grandsons served as pallbearers.
