She was born Feb. 21, 1920, at Cave Creek, the daughter of JP "Homer" and Cordia Elizabeth McCutcheon. She was a member of the Churches of Christ, having attended the Northside Church of Christ congregation in Harrison since moving back to this area in 1996.
She married Watson Thorpe on Oct 31, 1942 in Washington DC.
Watson & Alma had no children.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Watson Thorpe; her parents; two brothers, Oliver and Jack McCutcheon; five sisters, Ethel Carlton, Elpha Dickey, Opal Rushing, Ardith Turney Brown and Iobra Shelton.
She is survived by her nieces, nephews, a multitude of friends and her special friends from her bridge club.
Mrs. Thorpe went to beauty school while living in Washington, D.C., where she met her husband. She was a beautician for 28 years. After retiring, she and her husband traveled extensively in a fifth wheel attending bridge tournaments all over the country, finally settling down in Harrison where she continued to play bridge anywhere from three to four days a week up until the end of March.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 26, as Roller-Christeson Funeral Home with Jim Gaskill officiating. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Hills Hospice House, 501 East Sherman, Harrison, AR 72601.
