The following from History of Wood Co., written by Dexter Buckley.
"In a reputable list of immigrants to The colony of Virginia from 1607
to
1705 are listed two Buckleys: John, who came in 1632 to Williamsburg and William, who came to the same place in 1636, presumably brothers. They immigrated from Portsmouth, England, and were Protestants. Research through available wills and deeds for 175 years establishes two descendants of John settling in Wood County Va in 1817. Two brothers, John F. and Samuel Buckley, sons of John Fryer Buckley ,bought land at twelve cents an acre on opposite banks of Lee creek in Wood county and built their log cabins in sight of each other. With their tenacious love of land they struggled a challenging security of the area with a comparative happiness and deep religious sentiments of those early rugged pioneers. They had nine brothers and sisters, most of whom had established their homes in FAIRFAX and LOUDOUN Counties. William , Jeremiah, Nelly who married James Gill, Mary who married Lawrence Butler,Elizabeth who married Richard Goodwin, Catharine (Kitty), Sarah (Sally), Rose and Susanna. John F. and Samuel were grandsons of William Buckley (1723-1789) of Westmoreland County Virginia, who was a Revolutionary War patriot, having served in aVirginia unit. John F. Buckley had married Jane Chappell, daughter of John Chappel and his wife Mary Yayman of Fairfax County, before they started west to the Ohio River area, and they had at least one son, Harrison Wade Hampton Buckley, who was about five years old when they settled in Wood County.Samuel, the other pioneer brother had not yet married. Jane Chappell Buckley wife of John F., died about 1830 and was buried in the graveyard on the top of the hill on the Humphrey farm at Belleville. The old-timers frequently described that funeral in the coldest of the winter with a very deep snow on the ground. The men pulled her body on a sled a long distance to the graveyard. John F. married again, a Margaret Alkire, and eventually a third wife, Adeline Buckley, both from Louden County. He died April 28,1848 and was buried near his first wife. John F.'s children were Harrison Wade Hampton Buckley, George Washington, John B., Sarah, Amanda who married first a Flinn, and second a Collins, Tabitha who married a
Flinn, Susan who married a Mr.Jenny, Martha Almyra who married a Mr. Lent, Eliza Jane who married a Mr. Sheets, William Samuel, Roseann Matilda who married a Staats, James K.
and Thomas Alexander.Samuel, the pioneer brother, married Nancy Reaves in Wood County and they had three children: James Samuel (Rev.), Rose Sheets and Nancy Provo."
