Susan "Susie" Jacaway was born 18 Jan 1878 in Washington, Washington, Utah, USA to John Franklin Jacaway and Evelina Boggs. She spent most of her early childhood there. She was a vivacious young lady who loved the outdoors and liked to ride horses. She tells of helping her brother John drive the cows and horses to Hinkley, Millard, Utah when their family moved there.
Susie married Joseph Samuel Howard 10 Aug 1897 in Fillmore, Millard, Utah. Later they were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple 9 Jun 1920. They lived in Hinckley where their first four children were born. Twins Ora and Oral were born 19 Apr 1898. Oral died at six months. Orpha Ferol born 22 Mar 1900 she died at three months, and Sylvia Eveline born 23 Mar 1902.
They loaded their belongs into their covered wagon and headed for Menan, Jefferson, (at that time Menan was in Fremont County) Idaho.
They homesteaded a farm in lower Menan. They built a house in town and lived there in the winter so the kids could go to school.
While living in Menan they had four more daughters, Edith Leona born 1 May 1904, Leatha Luella born 26 Feb 1906, Clarissa born 27 Dec 1907 and a stillborn baby girl 24 Jul 1911.
They sold their farm and bought one between Menan and Lewisville. Susie enjoyed her many friends and church functions. There was the Saturday afternoon movies at the old school house for 10 cents and popcorn for 5 cents.
In 1917 they moved to Clark Ward where they purchased a farm.
In 1918 when the dreaded flu was raging Susie and others in the family became ill. Sylvia succumed to it on 30 Nov 1918. No funeral could be held. After Susie was a bit better she spent her time helping others who were ill.
It was during their time in the Clark Ward that the family became more active in the LDS Church and went to the Temple in Logan, Utah. She served on the Gelealogy Commitee and enjoyed Relief Society.
In 1931 they bought a chicken farm in Bountiful, Davis, Utah and moved there for a year, then mived back to Idaho Falls, Bonneville, Idaho in 1932. Joseph died in 1933 and Susie spent the remainder of her days there. She worked for a laundry in Idaho Falls doing mending and altering.
She died 26 May 1950 in the LDS Hospital in Idaho Falls, Idaho, after being a patient there for five weeks.
Susie and Joseph Samuel Howard are parents of 1 son and 7 daughters.
