Rachel Young Gibbs, 82, of Mooresville, died Friday, June 5, 2009 at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. She was born on June 15, 1926, daughter of the late Lewis Pinkney and Ona Morrow Young. Mrs. Gibbs attended Kings Business College and was an administrative secretary and homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Alexander Gibbs; son, Kenneth Gibbs; and three brothers, L.P. Paul, and Elree Young.
Survivors include her daughter, Sylvia Gibbs Sherrill of Mooresville; sons, Danny Gibbs and Donnie Gibbs Sr. and wife, Debbie, all of Mooresville, grandchildren, Donnie Gibbs Jr., Melanie Luther, Jason Gibbs, Brittany Gibbs, Heather Gibbs, Chad Tucker, Harold Tucker and Jason Josey Gibbs; great-grandchildren, Jonathan Gibbs, Marty Dale Gibbs, Christian Luther, Miles Luther and Keenan Luther; daughter-in-law, Pat Gibbs Shaver; and grandson-in-law, T.J. Luther.
Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. Monday, June 8 at Fairview Methodist Church with Rev. Patrick Hamrick in charge. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Fairview United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 27, Mt. Mourne, NC. Neill Funeral Home served the family.
