His exact birthdate was 11 Feb 1837 according to trees on Ancestry.com.

Son of (Capt.) Flamen Ball (II) (1809-1885) and Evelina (Candler) Ball (1810-1864).

While a few records record him as "Flamen, Jr.", he would more accurately be named "Flamen Ball III", in order, as both his grandfather and father were also named "Flamen Ball". (Note: Flamen III's oldest brother was also named "Flamen Ball" (and, would thus have been "Flamen Ball III"); however, he survived but a year (1833-1834), and died infancy, before our second "Flamen Ball III" was born.)

Flamen Ball (III) served in the Civil War, and was the Captain of Company E in the 2nd Kentucky Volunteer Infantry (enlisted: 06 Jun 1861; mustered out: 22 Feb 1862).

He married Katharine Follett on 14 Sep 1864 in Erie co., Ohio. They had seven children together, five of whom survived to adulthood (including Flamen Ball, IV).

Flamen Ball (III) was recorded as residing in Chicago in the 1910 Census, and there is no "Ohio, Death Index" record for his death in 1912, so it seems likely that Flamen Ball (III) did not die in the state of Ohio.
