NOTE: John Joseph Courneya was named John Baptist Courneya at birth-he was born on the Feast of Saint John the Baptist-(June 24), he later changed Baptist to Joseph as his cousin John Baptist Courneya-FAG-73338515 and his mail was getting mixed up. He was listed on the 1910 Federal census under John B. Courneya.

John Joseph Courneya and Marybelle Evelyn Stevens were married December 16, 1922, St. Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota.
OBITUARY:

J. J. COURNEYA DIES AT HOME

Rosary was said at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. Anthony's Church for John Joseph Courneya, 78, who died at his home, 316 Second Ave. S., January 8. Funeral services were held in St. Anthony's Church at 9 a.m. today, the Rev. Patrick Lyons officiating, with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of Marlatt Mortuary.
Mr. Courneya had lived in Kent since 1946. He was a house painter and a cook, and was a member of the American Legion. He was born June 24, 1888 at Silver Lake. He served in World War 1 in France.
Surviving are his wife Marybelle, six sons: Joseph Paul, Minnesota; James M. of Auburn; John Francis of Ohio; Charles L. of Auburn; Michael E. of Kent and Daniel S. of Kent; four daughters, Charlotte Cournaya of Kent; Clarice Courneya of California; Frances Breen of Auburn and Areilia Courneya of California. 27 grandchildren, two brothers Gordon of Hammond, Ind., Nels of Minnesota, and a sister Mrs. Mary Hardy of Minnesota.
