He was born March 13, 1922 in the Town of Meeme, son of the late Emil and Amanda Voss Dirks. Lester was a 1939 graduate of Kiel High School.
On May 21, 1949, he married Violet Mog at Saron United Church of Christ, Town of Sheboygan Falls. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. Les worked at his father's cheese factory and for a number of years at the Ada Meat Market. He was employed at Kohler Co. for 19 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a life-member of Bethel United Church of Christ, Town of Herman, where he served on the church consistory for several terms, a member of the Franklin American Legion Post, No. 387 and a member of the Ada Fire Department, serving as a fire fighter, fire chief and also serving on the board of directors.
Lester enjoyed his family, bowling, fishing, gardening and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, Violet; four sons, David, Kenosha; Allen (Connie), Howards Grove; Kevin (Kris), Howards Grove; and Keith (Stephanie), Platteville; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Jody, Bradley, Stephanie and Jamie Dirks; also survived by two brothers, Elmer Dirks, Sunny Ridge; Erwin (Evelyn) Kirks, Elkhart Lake; two sisters-in-law, Nelda Gumm, Sheboygan; Elvera Dassow, Plymouth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 16, at Bethel United Church of Christ, Town of Herman with the Rev. Melinda Feller, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, Kiel, from 4 to 9 p.m., Friday, March 15, and at the church, on Saturday, from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
