Richard S. Hammar, 70, of 300 S. railroad St., Myerstown, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 1994, in the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon.

He was the husband of Mildred M. Heffelfinger Hammar. The couple celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on May 25.

He was born in Myerstown on May 5, 1923.

He retired in 1992 as a carpenter at Bethany Childre's Home, Womelsdorf, where he worked for 42 years. He was a member of Myerstown United Church of Christ; American Legion Post 55, Myerstown; and Keystone Fire Co., Myerstown.

He served in the Army during World War II.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Jo Ann, wife of Charles M. Swingholm, Richland; a granddaughter, Stacie Dreibelbis, and a grandson, Andrew C. Swingholm; several step-brothers and stepsisters and several nieces and nephews.
