Obituary for Fred Locken, Kelliher Independent, 1 February 1950, by Mrs. Keith Dingman
Fred Locken was born in Norway, March 17, 1869. He grew to manhood and attended school there and about 1890 he migrated to the United States. He settled in Minneapolis, MN and on November 20,1897 he was united in marriage to Annie Sophia Johnson of that city.
In 1903 he moved to the Firman community where he took a homestead and build up with hard work a very nice farm through the years. He was active in community affairs serving on the school board and town board of Cormant township. He attended the Lutheran church and was confirmed in that faith in the old country. Fred was a good neighbor and always had time to visit everyone. He was a great lover of flowers and his home yard showed numbers of different varieties.
He is survived by two sons, Rudolph of Firman and Arthur, who resides in Alameda, CA; 3 granddaughters, two grandsons and two sisters in Norway. His wife, Annie, and his brother, Iver, preceded him in death.
Pall bearers were Dan Schuiling, Ole Linnum, Tom McQuoid, Gust Falk, Einar Johnson and Harold Erickson. Interment was in the Kelliher Cemetery. A quartet of Mr. & Mrs. Ray Daken, Mrs. Edwin Hauge and Mrs. Gergen Linnum rendered three very beautiful songs.
