Mrs. Essie Bell Dalton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Breece, was born February 20 (sic) [inked in 27], 1892, near the town of Marquand in Madison county, Missouri. She departed this life February 6, 1929, at 3:23 p.m., aged 32 years, 11 months and 10 days.
On her sixteenth birthday anniversary she was married to J.M. Dalton, and the happy couple came to Cantwell to make their home. They spent the entire twenty-one years of their married life there. The home was blessed with two children, Audrey and Elva. Elva went on to glory February 5, 1913, at the age of sixteen months.
She leaves to mourn her going her husband, J. M. Dalton; her daughter, Audrey; her mother and her step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Maxwell; three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Williams and Mrs. Alleon (sic) Toppins, both of Florida; and Mrs. Gillie Dalton, of Womack; her brother, Charlie Breece, of Cantwell, besides a host of friends and relatives.
Mrs. Dalton was a devoted wife and mother. She loved her home and spent most of her time there making it a place of cheer and comfort for those she loved.
She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and united with the Shetley Creek Baptist Church at the age of thirteen. When she came to Cantwell to live she brought her membership there and she proved to be a very useful and loyal member though her illness handicapped her in her activities. She remained a true follower of Christ, bestowing words of comfort and blessings on those who came her way through her many years of illness.
Just before her going she quoted Matthew 11:28: "Come unto me all ye who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest." The she said, "Peace! Peace! sweet peace."
