John Washington Goodwine was born in Bartholomew, County , Indiana. James & Elizabeth Goodwine moved the family to a farm in Warren County, Indiana and John W. Goodwine was raised there. He married Jane Charlton in Warren County, Indiana in 1846. They moved to Vermillion County, Illinois in 1848 and raised their family there. Jane died on Aug. 26, 1871. John Married second to Arminda Sperry Dare in July 23, 1872. John W. Goodwine purchased over 6000 acres of farm land in Vermillion County. In 1898 he moved into Potomac and retired, he resided there until his death.
