John (Jack) Goodwine was born in Rossville, Illinois. He married first December 22, 1870 at Danville, Illinois by Samuel Stanbury justice of the peace, to Mary Alexander. Married second May 14, 1874 at Danville, Illinois by Judge R. W. Hanford to Lidora Alice Lane. By occupation he was a farmer, stock-breeder and feeder, and in politics a republican.
John Goodwine farmed about 1500 acres around Potomac, Illinois and between 1900 & 1910 he purchased over 1100 acres near Juhl in Elmer Twp., Sanilac county, Michigan. In 1923 he divided and gave all the parcels of land in Sanilac County, Michigan to his children.
John Goodwine with his son John Washington Goodwine founded the "Goodwine State Bank" in Potomac Illinois in 1903.
