A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg February 16, 1865, with apparent written permission of his father given that he claimed to be seventeen years old, which was still an overstatement by as much as three years. He mustered into federal service at Harrisburg February 17 as a private with the 78th Pennsylvania Infantry in the second organization of Co. D, and honorably discharged with his company September 11, 1865.
He married Laura Elizabeth Smith and fathered the children you see linked below plus Gerald Parker "Jerry" (b. 02/22/74). Laura died in 1886, and he married Agnes M. Stence, fathering the one child you see linked below plus Samuel (b. 01/22/04). He died in Steelton, Dauphin County, from "arteritis obliterans [arterial inflammation] R[ight] foot" with "tertius sclerosis [hardening of the muscle in the lower front leg]" a contributing factor.
