MONTPELIER - Doris Barkdull Gerbec, 81, returned to her Father in Heaven and other family members who were waiting to greet her, on Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at the Bear Lake Skilled Nursing Facility. She died of complications related to cancer. She was born Nov. 16, 1924, in Montpelier, Idaho, to Nathan W. and Pearl Hymas Barkdull. She attended school in Liberty, Sharon, Paris, and Georgetown, Idaho, and graduated from Georgetown High School. She moved to Pocatello, where she worked for the telephone company as a switchboard operator. After relocating to Seattle, Wash., she worked in the office of the telephone company there until her retirement. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Doris is survived by two brothers, Franklin D. Barkdull of Northbridge, Va., and Orson R. Barkdull of Sharon, Idaho. She has 13 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Donna Hillier. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 24, at 1 p.m. in the Montpelier Stake Center, Fifth Ward chapel, where friends may visit with family that day from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. The interment will be in the Montpelier Cemetery.
