Orson Reed Barkdull
April 26, 1936 - June 30, 2013
Orson Reed Barkdull 77, passed away Sunday, June 30 at Bear Lake Memorial Hospital in Montpelier, Idaho. Reed was born April 26, 1936 in Liberty, the youngest of four children of William Nathan and Pearl Hymas Barkdull.
He grew up in Georgetown and Pocatello where he met and married Lois Wintle on Oct. 1, 1955. The marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Temple. To this union were born four children, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
Reed held many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, including counselor in two bishoprics, Stake Clerk in three stake presidencies . He was active in scouting and Young Men's programs as well.
Reed and Lois served as ordinance workers in the Logan Utah temple and counted this as one of their favorite callings.
Reed worked at the Salt Lake International airport as an air traffic controller for 25 years after serving four years as a controller in the U. S. Navy.
His passion was fly fishing the mountain streams in Idaho and Wyoming. He became an expert at it, tied his own flies and spent many happy hours pursuing the cutthroats, rainbows, and browns of this area.
In 1984 Reed retired to Sharon where he and Lois built a log home. They viewed the Bear Lake Valley, the people and their surroundings as a "little bit of heaven".
They enjoyed riding their horses on the mountain trails and were members of the Bear Lake Rangers. They cherished the times they spent riding and sitting around the campfire with theses good friends.
Reed is survived by his wife Lois, their four children and their families, Michael (Peggy), Cheyenne, Michele Barkdull Bountiful, Eric ( Maureen), Bountiful, and Cody, Logan, one brother, Franklin D. Barkdull, Pleasant Grove.
Funeral services will be held Saturday July 6, at the Liberty Ward church. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Liberty Cemetery.
