The early hardships and adventures of Christian ministry in Texas were recalled Saturday afternoon in tributes paid to the Rev. George W. Riley, 72 years old, of Emory, Rains county, who was buried at Grove Hill cemetery following. Mr. Riley died Friday in Emory. He had been in the ministry continuously for forty-eight years.
Funeral services were held at his home in Emory Saturday morning, after which the body was brought overland to Dallas. Bishop John M. Moore of the North Texas Conference, Methodist Episcopal Church, South, was the principal speaker at the graveside. Hundreds of friends from Dallas and other cities were present.
Survivors are a son, George W. Riley Jr., Rotan, and four daughters, Mrs. C.R. Moore and Miss Louise Riley of Rotan, Mrs. C.A. Whatley of Dallas and Mrs. A.W. Cave of Malakoff.
